Good cause

Looking back together. And doing some good.

With every registration through My Reunion you can add a few euros for malaria nets. We pass it all on to the charity that saves the most lives per euro.

Why a reunion and a bed net belong together

A reunion is about people you don't want to lose sight of: the class you grew up with, the team you won the championship with, your colleagues from back then. You get together because those years mattered.

Elsewhere, that life still has to begin. In large parts of sub-Saharan Africa, malaria is still one of the biggest causes of death among young children. Almost 600,000 people die from it every year, most of them under five.

An insecticide-treated bed net costs about €2. It hangs over a bed for years and protects almost two people on average from the mosquitoes that bite at night. A net isn't exciting. It simply works.

That's why we ask at registration whether you'd like to add a few euros. Never required, never pre-selected. If you do, you give another child the chance to go to a reunion of their own one day.

Why the Against Malaria Foundation?

We didn't want to pick a cause on gut feeling, but on what a euro actually achieves. So we follow GiveWell, an independent organisation that evaluates charities on evidence and cost per life saved.

The Against Malaria Foundation (AMF) has been among their top-rated charities for years. According to GiveWell, AMF saves roughly one life per €5,000 in nets, and prevents a lot of illness besides. That makes it one of the most cost-effective ways to help.

AMF is also open about where every net ends up: for each distribution they publish where, how many and with what result. That's the kind of openness we want to offer too.

How it works

1. You choose. With a paid registration you pick €1, €2.50, €5 or your own amount. Or you skip it. The amount is shown separately in your summary.

2. Not to the organiser. Your donation is part of the same payment, but it reaches My Reunion, not the organiser. No service or transaction fees are deducted.

3. Passed on every month. We pass 100% on to the Against Malaria Foundation, via Stichting Doneer Effectief, the Dutch foundation that forwards gifts to the charities GiveWell recommends. You can see every transfer below.

Organisers can switch the donation step off. We never show it for free registrations.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to donate?
No. Nothing is selected by default. You choose an amount or skip it, and your registration works exactly the same.
Is anything deducted from my donation?
No. Your donation is part of the same payment as your ticket, so there are no extra transaction fees. We pass on the full amount.
Does the organiser receive my donation?
No. The organiser only receives the money for tickets and extras. The donation goes to My Reunion, and from us to the Against Malaria Foundation.
Is my donation tax-deductible?
No. You give via My Reunion, not directly to a registered charity. If you want a tax-deductible gift, donate directly via doneereffectief.nl or againstmalaria.com.
What happens to my donation if I cancel my ticket?
A refund of your ticket covers the ticket price. Your donation isn't refunded automatically. Made a mistake? Get in touch with us.
Can I switch the donation step off as an organiser?
Yes. It's on by default. In your dashboard you switch it off under Settings → Payments → Good cause. Your revenue and payouts don't change.
Why do you do this?
My Reunion is free for organisers. With the donation step we give guests an easy way to give something back, at no cost to the organiser.
